About Laser Hair REmoval
Q: Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
A: Absolutely, Laser is a clinically tested treatment with proven results. Our Laser is FDA approved, tested and has undergone vigorous clinical trials to deem it safe and effective. The Laser Technicians have been through extensive training and are trained to perform these treatments effectively.
We take your safety very seriously, we use the highest grade of IPL laser and we operate strict guidelines for all of our treatments to ensure your safety while in our care. Before starting a course of treatments with us we conduct a courtesy consultation and follow a strategic procedure called a patch test that has a 24 hour waiting period to ensure the skin is safe and no reaction has ocurred.
All of these measures are in place to ensure you receive the best possible treatment in the safest possible way.
Q: Is the treatment painful & what makes our Laser treatment safe and comfortable?
A: We use patented Advanced Contact Cooling System to protect your outer skin during a laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatment. The laser's light emerges through a sapphire crystal window that is pressed against your skin that is cooling to instantly remove the heat that gives you a little "pinch" feeling as the laser pulses in order to make the treatment comfortable. Our equipment also emits a patented smooth pulse of light, which delivers a continuous energy level without characteristic spikes in energy that in some of the other lasers cause a sharp sting which makes our machine comfortable instead of painful.
NOTE: We recognize that some of the earlier aesthetic lasers delivered painful pulses. If you have been treated with one of these devices and now fear a similar experience, please give us the opportunity to show you how much more comfortable our state-of-the-art technology is. To do so simply book a courtesy consultation with one of our trained technicians who can answer all your question and provide you with optimal results and comfortable treatments.
Q: Is it hygienic to laser?
A: Definitely, we have a strict hygiene policy that is in forced before and after every treatment.
Our Laser is thoroughly sanitised with hospital grade disinfectant after every client & in between treatments when treating multiple body parts.
A new disposable razor is used for each client and is immediately discarded after use. (Razors are only used to remove any random hairs clients may have missed)
We wear disposable gloves always to sanatize equipment and during each treatment session.
Q: How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
A: Our Laser Machine emits energy in the form of heat and light that targets and heats up your hair follicle. The light of the laser is attracted to and absorbed by Melanin (the substance within your hair that contains the pigment or colour) as the heat travels down the base of the hair to the root. This is where the heat destroys the root and interconnectors that connect the hair root to the blood supply that nourishes it. If these cells are completely destroyed new hair can’t grow. This is a completely safe procedure as the laser will only absorb into these specific structures and will not damage the surrounding skin or tissues.
Q: How Many Sessions Do I Need?
A: Each persons amount of sessions will vary based on the results they wish to achieve, what type of treatment and what body part they are treating. Other factors taken into consideration are ones skin and hair type. Below is an average amount of sessions based on someone who has fair skin, dark hair that is dense, has no underlying medical issues and attends their sessions regularly following the recommended time frame in between sessions.
Face 6-8 Sessions (Most difficult areas to treat, due to hair being finer and more follicles being present)
Bikini and Underarm 6-8 (Labia is one of the most difficult areas here, due to skin colour being darker)
Large areas, Legs/arms etc. 6-8 (Knees, Upper thighs due to thick skin on knees and finer hairs on thighs)
Man’s Back/Chest 6-8 Sessions (Due to hair being very strong, coarse and resilient to laser)
After these sessions have been completed maintenance sessions are required, most people will need an average of 2-3 maintenance sessions a year.
Q: Do I need to do anything before my consultation/patch test?
A: Your patch test is vitally important before treatment, it allows us to ensure your treatment setting is correct for your skin type and that no adverse skin reactions to the laser will occur.
It is important that you allow some hair to be present in the area at the time of the consultation so that the technician can assess your hair and skin type. Please also insure the treatment area is free from all skin care products such as body lotions or facial moisturizers. Please inform your laser technician if you have been exposed to UV light over the previous 3 weeks before your patch test.
Q: Are there any factors that influence results?
A: For the vast majority of people laser hair removal is an amazing and sometimes life changing treatment. Genetically we are all unique which may impact the effectiveness of your treatment as each persons skin type, hair time and hair density is different. There are a number of factors listed below that will determine an estimated result you may receive and how many treatments it will take to get that result.
Colour of your Skin
Colour and diameter of your Hair
Optimum Fluencies (Energy Levels)
Optimum Treatment Intervals (Time between treatments)
All of these areas are fully explained when having a consultation with our laser specialists.
Q: I have never had laser before and I am nervous?
A: We completely understand, if you have never had laser before it is a pretty daunting experience, there is nothing to be worried about. When we carry out your initial patch test which will give you an idea of how the treatment will feel.We explain how the treatment is performed and any questions you may have can be answered by our laser technicians. Our main aim for your first few sessions is to slow your hair growth down and thin it out, this can be done by introducing a lower level of heat into the skin, your first few sessions should be comfortable and you should feel a slight/medium pinch depending on the density of your hair. We will take our time to explain what will happen and ensure you feel at ease. Our technicians are very professional and will make sure you never feel uncomfortable.
Q: Do I need to do anything before my laser appointment?
A: Once you start thinking about starting laser treatments, you will need to refrain from using wax, epilator or threading 4-6 weeks before your first session to ensure your follicles are full and you have enough hair to treat.
Ensure the treatment area is free from UV tanning and spray tan products otherwise lightly exfoliate approx. 5 days before your first session.
Do not apply any moisturiser, cream, oil or lotion to the treatment area, Aloe Vera is the only thing we would recommend if skin is irritated from shaving.
Close shave the area the night before treatment, not the day of because when you shave you slightly exfoliate and irritate the area so allow the extra time overnight for the skin to regenerate and make the treatment more comfortable. Shaving the day of your treatment will cause your skin to feel more sensitive throughout the treatment and may limit the amount of energy we can use due to skin sensitivity.
Q: I am having laser on my face and don’t want to shave, do I have any other options?
A: You can use hair removal creams (specifically designed to be used on the face) 2 days before your session or trim hairs as close to the skin as possible. We would recommend you patch test your skin for these products prior to use as they are not suitable for everyone, if you do use these creams and have a reaction we would not be able to laser over irritated skin. We can resume laser once this irritation disappears and skin returns to normal.
Q: Will laser help with ingrown hairs?
A: Definitely, Laser is the number one scientifically proven method of hair removal that will effectively treat and solve this problem. After 3-4 sessions the amount of ingrown hairs will decrease dramatically.
Q: Are there any factors that could affect my final result?
A: Factors that affect your treatment outcome are the following:
Leaving long gaps in-between sessions
Your heat sensitivity, the level of temperature that you can tolerate starting off, if you are sensitive to heat all that means is that you may need a few extra sessions to gradually build up the heat each time
Any changes in medical circumstances for example if you became pregnant we would just postpone treatment until you had your baby and resume treatment a couple of months after.
If you wax in between your sessions this will interfere with growth cycles and may mean you will need more sessions
Q: Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
A: The reduction you receive is permanent, but it is impossible to achieve 100% removal of every single follicle in a given area. Over the course of treatment your hair and the amount of it that you have will change dramatically. What starts off as rough, coarse and thick hair will eventually become soft, thin and light hair. You will have areas where the hair has completely disappeared and some areas with sporadic light hairs remain, these hairs will be picked up on your subsequent top up (maintenance) treatments. Top up treatments are recommended to keep these finer hairs away and are typically needed once or twice a year.
